Most blackout blinds leak light.
So we engineered one that finally doesn’t.
— MONOBLINDS, Toronto

The Story of MONOBLINDS

From solving light leakage, to refusing licensing, to reinventing how blackout blinds move.

01 · ENGINEERED
We built the blind that finally blocks all light.
Early mornings in Toronto showed us one problem: every “blackout” blind still leaked light. So we treated it as an engineering failure — running simulations, building 100+ prototypes, and creating a fully sealed, patented blackout system.
02 · OWNED
We refused to sell the patent—and chose to sell it ourselves.
Big window-covering brands wanted to license the design and sell it as a high-markup luxury product. That was never the point. We built MONOBLINDS so real people with real sleep struggles could actually use it. So we kept the patent, manufacture it ourselves, and offer it directly at the fairest price we can.
03 · REFINED
We rethought how blackout blinds should move.
Traditional cordless blinds only move up and down — inconvenient and limiting. We designed MONOBLINDS to move with you: left-to-right for bedrooms, bottom-up for privacy in bathrooms, and classic top-down when you need it. The blinds adapt to your habits, not the other way around.

Our Vision — Engineered to Solve a Problem the Industry Ignored

MONOBLINDS began with a simple question — Why do blackout blinds still leak light?

For decades, blackout blinds still leaked light. The industry accepted it as “normal.”

We didn’t.

As engineers living in Toronto waking up at 5AM, this wasn’t décor — it was an engineering failure.

No blinds on the market could truly block all light. We wanted one that actually worked — true 100% blackout, not “almost.”

So we began testing.

  • 10 prototypes leaked.
  • 30 failed durability tests.
  • 60 couldn’t seal the side gaps.

More than a hundred iterations later, we built a fully sealed blackout system where light has nowhere to escape.

This patented breakthrough became MONOBLINDS — a custom-engineered product built with precision components, designed and tested to deliver true 100% blackout in real homes, with real sunlight.

Made for real sleepers:

shift workers, new parents, light sleepers, gamers, and anyone whose life is affected by light.

We didn’t set out to make a window covering. We set out to solve a problem the world ignored.

Why We Chose to Sell MONOBLINDS Ourselves

Because no one understands this system better than the people who engineered it — and no one cares about its purpose more than the people whose lives it changed first.

After finishing our patented blackout system, several major brands wanted to buy it — so they could sell it at luxury prices.

But that defeated the purpose. We created MONOBLINDS because we struggled with sleep — and millions of people do too.

So we made one clear decision:

Don’t sell the patent. Build it ourselves.

We manufacture directly, test every component repeatedly, and offer the fairest price possible — because engineered solutions shouldn’t become luxury markups.

MONOBLINDS is designed for real people with real sleep struggles — people who deserve darkness, rest, and a better quality of life.

Better engineering. Better ethics. Better sleep.

That’s why we sell it ourselves.

HOW MONOBLINDS MOVES

We engineered blackout. Then we re-engineered how blinds should move.

After achieving true 100% blackout, we realized another problem the industry ignored: traditional cordless blinds only move up and down. They don’t match real life.

So we redesigned how blinds should move — based on how people actually use their windows. After countless tests and prototypes, we created a system that adapts to every scenario:

  • Side-to-Side: perfect for bedrooms — open or close with a simple reach.
  • Bottom-Up: ideal for bathrooms and privacy — block the lower view while keeping the sky.
  • Top-Down: the classic motion, upgraded for easier, safer use.

Not the old way of forcing you to adapt to the blind. Now the blind adapts to you.
