Measure Your Window in 3 Steps

Step 1: Check Your Window’s Recess Depth

Before measuring the width and height, first check if your window recess is deep enough to fit the shade frame securely.

  • Minimum recess depth: 3 inches (7.56 cm)
  • How to measure: Start from the front edge of the window recess (closest to you) and measure to the shallowest point inside the recess.

Watch for Obstructions

Common obstructions that may reduce usable depth:

  • Window handles
  • Latches
  • Locks
  • Cranks or winders

How to Measure with Obstructions

Even if your window recess is fairly deep, objects like handles or cranks can still interfere with the proper closing of the blinds.

To check if there's enough clearance for installation:

1. Measure the total recess depth - from the front of the recess to the window surface.

2. Measure the obstruction depth - from the front of the window to the front of the obstruction (e.g., a handle).

3. Subtract the obstruction depth from the total recess depth to determine your usable space.

Important: You need at least 3 inches of unobstructed recess depth to install Mono securely.

Step 2: Measure the Width

Windows may not be perfectly square, so measure in three places:

  • Top of the window recess
  • Middle of the window recess
  • Bottom of the window recess

Record the narrowest measurement. This ensures that your Mono fits properly at the tightest point.

Step 3: Measure the Height

Next, measure the height of your window recess. Take measurements at three points:

  • Left of the window recess
  • Middle of the window recess
  • Right of the window recess

Just like with the width, use the shortest of the three measurements to ensure a proper fit.

Avoid Common Measuring Mistakes

To ensure the most accurate results, watch out for these common measuring mistakes:

  • Measuring at an angle: Always keep the tape measure straight and level with the window frame.
  • Letting the tape bend or sag: A curved tape can throw off your numbers—keep it flat and taut.
  • Incorrect rounding: Round to the nearest sixteenth of an inch (or 0.1 cm) for best accuracy.
